    ​A specialized workshop that monitors the role of the Product Safety Program in supporting small and medium enterprises and increasing exports

    Asharqia Chamber organized on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, a workshop on “The Role of the Product Safety Program in Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises and Increasing Exports,” with the participation of specialists from the “Saudi Standards” who reviewed the methodology of the Saudi Product Safety Program.

    In the beginning, Fayez Abdullah Al-Harbi explained the role of the authority and its various services, initiatives, and continuous contributions to raising the level of quality of life-based on the Kingdom's 2030 vision.

    Al-Harbi also reviewed the important role of the authority in supporting small and medium enterprises, as the authority established a specialized department to support small and medium enterprises, and he spoke about the King Abdulaziz Award for Institutional Excellence, which stimulates the public and private sectors, enterprises, and institutions to compete positively in the service of the public interest and enhances the level of quality. He touched on the most prominent achievements of the authority and won many awards of excellence at the local and Arab levels in the areas of job engagement and employee satisfaction rate, as well as the application of Verify, which won the award for the best innovative project that uses smart technologies to serve energy efficiency.

    He also spoke about the importance of standard specifications that go through stages of study by experts through specialized technical teams before being submitted and approved.
    He also touched on many of the services provided by the authority through the Center for Technical Consultation and the Granting of Certificates, the launch of the National Program for Quality Ambassadors, and its efforts to issue a quality standard for the beneficiary service centers (Hayyak), which had a positive impact in raising the level of services provided by the beneficiaries service centers. As well as the Saudi Professional Program, which targets fresh graduates.
    He also touched on energy efficiency cards that aim to rationalize the consumption of electrical products, as well as water conservation cards and fuel economy consumption cards for vehicles as well as tires.
    Regarding the Saudi Product Safety Program, Abdul Mohsen bin Hamad Al-Sultan said that the product safety program stems from the vision of the authority, which seeks to be a globally trusted entity that enables quality of life and the competitiveness of the national economy, and is distinguished in developing specifications, conformity, metrology and enhancing product safety in the Kingdom.
    The Sultan explained that the program is concerned with developing and approving technical regulations for goods and products, issuing regulations for conformity assessment procedures, following the standard specifications approved by the authority, and ensuring their implementation.​
    On the issues of control and its obligation, the Sultan indicated that the control includes mandatory quality activities to control the safety of products before and after manufacturing or import, which ensures fair trade and consumer protection, pointing out that the control system in the Kingdom is shared by several government agencies such as the Ministry of Commerce, the Customs Authority and other bodies related.
    Regarding the Saber program, Al-Sultan said that it is one of the tools of the Saudi Product Safety Program, which aims to automate the processes of tracking products and technical processes so that the importer and local producer can register certificates of conformity and issue certificates of conformity with the consignment electronically, and aims to raise the level of safe products, shorten the time and speed up procedures.
